Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring (gel)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add eggs one at a time followed by vegetable oil; mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in red food coloring until desired hue is reached.
  5. In another bowl, beat softened cream cheese until fluffy, then gradually mix in sour cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until creamy.
  6. Pour half of the red velvet batter into the prepared dish as an even base. Spread the cheesecake mixture on top, then dollop remaining batter over it and swirl gently with a knife.
  7. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean from the edges.
  8. Allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.
