- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Dipping sauce (ranch or spicy aioli)
Instructions
- Soak the peeled onions in ice water for 30 minutes to help them bloom.
- Cut each onion into quarters, leaving the base intact.
- Set up three bowls: one with flour mixed with paprika, garlic powder, and salt; one with beaten eggs; and one with panko breadcrumbs.
- Dip each onion first in the flour mixture, then in the egg, and finally coat it in panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 375°F (190°C). Fry the breaded onions until golden brown on all sides, about 5 minutes.
- Drain on paper towels before serving with your chosen dipping sauce.
