  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon sugar filling)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until just above body temperature. Combine with 2 tablespoons sugar and sprinkle in the yeast; let sit until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and melted butter; stir until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Spread softened butter over it, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture, then roll into a log.
  6. Slice the log into equal pieces and place cut side up in a greased baking dish. Let rise again for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
