Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp coarse sea salt (plus more for topping)
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
- 1 cup hard cider
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- ¼ cup melted butter
Instructions
- 1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water and brown sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit until frothy, about 5–10 minutes.
- 2. Prepare the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until smooth, about 5 minutes.
- 3. Shape the pretzels: Divide the dough into pieces and roll each into a rope about 24 inches long. Twist into pretzel shapes.
- 4. Boil the pretzels: In a pot, bring water to boil, then add baking soda carefully. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds per side, then drain.
- 5. Bake: Brush boiled pretzels with melted butter, sprinkle with salt and Parmesan cheese. Bake at 450°F (232°C) for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- 6. Make the cheese dip: In a saucepan over low heat, mix cream cheese and hard cider until smooth; stir in remaining Parmesan until melted.
