  • 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt together the butter, cocoa powder, and water until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the melted chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients along with eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the frosting, mix softened butter with powdered sugar until fluffy; gradually add cocoa powder and milk to desired consistency.
  7. Once the cake cools slightly, frost it evenly using an offset spatula.
